Within a very short time, Germany went from summer to autumn mode.

We explain what kind of weather can be expected in the coming days.

Berlin/Munich - A few weeks ago it was midsummer - but meanwhile autumn mood has long spread in Germany.

Rain, thunderstorms and an enormous drop in temperature cause problems for many people and let the mood slip into "cold season" mode.

According to weather forecasts, it will continue to be rainy on Tuesday, especially in eastern Bavaria.

Because of a low pressure area coming from Russia, it will be cloudy throughout the Free State, said the German Weather Service (DWD) in Munich.

Local showers are also possible in Upper Bavaria, Swabia and Franconia, with little sunshine and maximum temperatures between 12 degrees on the edge of the Alps and 16 degrees on the Lower Main.

And how is the weather in Germany in general?

Weather forecast Germany: Summer comes back on Wednesday/Thursday

In the further course (calendar week 38) there will be mostly relatively pleasant and dry weather, but there will also be wind in many places.

Clouds, a few showers and temperatures between 14 and 18 degrees will accompany western Germany in the coming days.

The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach expected individual showers for Tuesday, especially in the north-east of Hesse.

It gets much worse hundreds of kilometers southeast, where there is a severe weather warning:

In some parts of southern Germany there could be lightning.

There are warnings of strong thunderstorms in the Regensburg and Kelheim districts.

The districts of Pfaffenhofen, Eichstätt, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen and the city of Ingolstadt are also affected by the impending storm, as are other regions in Lower and Upper Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate.

The weather forecast is for changeable weather in the coming days.

As is typical in autumn, there is also fog in some places, explains the DWD.

There is ground frost around the low mountain ranges and in the Alps, in the mountains there is a maximum of ten degrees.

Temperatures can drop to two degrees on Wednesday night.

Germany weather: "Stefan" taps into warm air - it's getting sunnier and warmer

But then an upward trend is announced: for Wednesday itself (September 21), the meteorologists predict changing cloudiness and longer sunny sections to the south with up to 18 degrees.

On this day it should be drier, friendlier and warmer overall, explained a DWD spokesman.

The impact of an approaching high pressure area 'Stefan' from the Atlantic taps into warmer air and brings back a touch of summer.

Meteorologists only expect precipitation at the edge of the Alps and in the eastern low mountain ranges.

Otherwise it will probably remain dry, with maximum temperatures of 12 to 18 degrees.

The weather seems to be getting a little warmer in some places: the sky will remain clear on Thursday and Friday, especially at night.

In regions like the south-west half of Germany there is said to be undisturbed sunshine.

It will also be comparatively warm in Lower Franconia - temperatures of up to 20 degrees are possible on Friday, reveals meteorologist Corinna Borau in the "Deutschland Trend".

Weather forecast: the water level in the Rhine is relaxing – this is what the weather will be like this weekend

For freight shipping on the Middle Rhine, the situation has eased after the rains of the past few days.

In August, ever lower sinking water levels made steadily smaller shiploads necessary - with consequences for the economy.

The important level at Kaub (Rhein-Lahn district) was 141 centimeters on Tuesday morning.

"Compared to August, this is a significant relaxation and about one meter above the extreme water levels at that time," said a spokesman for the Rhine Waterways and Shipping Office.

However, the forecasts indicate falling levels again in the middle of the week.

Next weekend (from September 23rd) the weather trend does not look too rosy, at least for good weather fans: dense cloud fields are coming over Germany from the North Sea, which will result in precipitation in many places by Saturday at the latest, so there will be more rain.

The temperatures in the Federal Republic should also drop somewhat later.

This sometimes affects Bavaria, where a frosty drop in temperature is imminent.
