The Ministry of Health announced today that the cumulative number of cholera cases confirmed by rapid testing in the country has risen to 253, distributed in Aleppo 180, Deir Ezzor 29, Al-Hasakah 25, Latakia 13, Homs 4 and Damascus 2.
According to a ministry statement, SANA received a copy of it today, the total number of deaths from cholera was 23 in Aleppo, 20 due to the delay in seeking medical advice, Deir ez-Zor 2 and Hasaka 1.
The ministry indicated that it is conducting epidemiological surveillance of the disease around the clock, investigating suspected cases and samples, giving preventive treatment to those in contact with it, and taking appropriate measures to contain the disease in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
The ministry also pointed out that a unified treatment protocol has been adopted and circulated and is available in all its forms, and hospitals are being strengthened and provided with an additional stock of treatment and supplies in anticipation of any increase in the number of limited cases so far.
The ministry called on citizens to follow public health procedures and behaviors, such as washing hands with soap and water frequently, drinking water from a safe source, and if not found, it can be boiled for two minutes and then kept in a clean and closed container, washing fruits and vegetables well, cooking food and keeping it at the appropriate temperature, and not drinking or eating. Anything of unknown origin or of doubtful safety and seek early medical advice if infection is suspected.
It also called on the ministry to follow its official platforms on the Internet and social networking sites.
