Krün / Mittenwald – There was a lively crowd and picture-perfect weather at the public pledge ceremony on the sports field in Krün.

Over 350 visitors enjoyed the wonderful view of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains as well as the solemn ceremony that formally ended the general basic training.

A total of 135 recruits who are currently being trained in the 6th company of the 233rd Mountain Infantry Battalion in Mittenwald vowed.

There were also traditional and reservist associations with flag delegations.

The mayor of the sponsored municipality of Krün, Thomas Schwarzenberger, was delighted with the great response.

But also about the picture-book weather, because a year ago it was pouring rain in the same place.

For him it is the tenth pledge of his tenure.

Since soldiers from the sponsor company are currently deployed in Mali, the mayor is concerned about world politics.

The Ukraine war is not only about the continued existence of the existing borders, but about freedom, democracy and self-determination.

"This affects Europe, it also affects us," emphasized Thomas Schwarzenberger.

Krün's mayor expressed the utmost respect and appreciation to the recruits for taking the vow on that day - precisely in uncertain times.

"We have to prove that we have a defensive democratic attitude and that we value our freedom," emphasized Schwarzenberger.

The sponsored municipality of Krün is particularly closely linked to the 4th company of the Mittenwalder Jäger and is grateful to the Bundeswehr.

In the event of a disaster, you can rely on the soldiers.

Thomas Schwarzenberger clarified: "Such a pledge is also a sign that we stand behind our Bundeswehr and not just watch from a distance what they do for us."

Being a helper in emergencies and catastrophes requires basic and exhausting training, outlined the recruit spokesman, Oberfähnrich Sascha W. For some, the path means pain and deprivation, for everyone it is an effort and a test of will.

Within a very short time, the recruits learned a great deal, both militarily and about themselves. Above all, the experience of camaraderie made an impressive impression, explained the senior midshipman: "If it's really no longer possible and we simply can't carry the rucksack any longer, one next to us comrade who carries the backpack for us;

who encourages and motivates us to keep going.” In the end, this comrade would even carry you himself.

The recruits could also fully trust their trainers:

Living German values and norms every day - this is particularly evident in our dealings with one another, added the commander of the Mittenwald Mountain Infantry Battalion 233, Lieutenant Colonel Bastian Steves in his speech to the recruits, "You, my young comrades, stand up for the principles of our Basic Law .

They stand up for justice and freedom.

You take up your duties in order to maintain and protect Germany's external security.” This also explains the self-image of the Bundeswehr: “We.

To serve.

Germany."

After the musical Bavarian military prayer, the battalion commander took the vow.

The commander thanked the Mountain Music Corps Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the excellent musical accompaniment to the public pledge, which gave the whole thing that special solemn touch.

In fact, this time the Mountain Music Corps surprised with some rarely played marches, which they intoned very lightly.

This enlivened the celebratory atmosphere, which the recruits and their parents and acquaintances visibly enjoyed.

Of the 135 recruits from Mittenwald's basic training, a total of 42 will return to the individual core units of Mountain Infantry Brigade 23, of which 13 will remain in Mountain Infantry Battalion 233 in Mittenwald.
