The shops in the big cities continue to die: In Nuremberg, a Rewe branch is closing.
The local supply also suffers as a result.
Nuremberg – Especially since the corona pandemic, shops – from the small shop next door to the larger chains – have been suffering from increased delivery competition.
Online shops and orders that are shipped within a day are a major problem for downtown businesses.
More and more businesses have to give way to online trading.
In Nuremberg it even hits a Rewe branch.
Rewe branch in Nuremberg closes: lease expires
As reported by
nordbayern.de
, the Rewe branch at Welserstrasse 70 in the Schoppershof district of Nuremberg will be permanently closed on December 15.
The reason for the closure is the expiring lease.
A new branch should not replace the old one.
This also endangers the local supply of local residents.
This is a bitter loss, especially for people with limited mobility.
Of course, there is also the alternative of ordering online for them, but this is often associated with higher costs - not to mention the technical knowledge that often older people lack to shop online smoothly.

Rewe branch closes - why is the contract not extended?
The reason given by Rewe for the branch closure is the expiring lease.
But couldn't it be extended?
And even if not, wouldn't Rewe open another branch nearby to replace the old one?
The suspicion arises that Rewe is deliberately letting the lease expire.
The reason for this will probably be the financing of the branch - if this does not bring in enough profit, it is a ballast that has become unpopular for the grocery chain.
The suspicion is therefore obvious that this store closure is also a consequence of online competition.
