Will there be a successor to the 9 euro ticket?

In Hesse, many hope so.

Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir is now giving hope.

Wiesbaden - The 9-euro ticket is a thing of the past.

In the case of the transport associations in Hesse, the conclusion was positive.

According to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and the Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund (NVV), the number of passengers has at times even risen above the pre-pandemic level.

During the Corona crisis, they had temporarily fallen to 30 percent of the usual level.

The RMV alone had now sold almost 2.5 million 9-euro tickets within three months.

But now, after the 9-euro ticket has expired, many in Hesse who commute to Frankfurt or within the Rhine-Main area, for example, are asking themselves: What's next?

Will there be a sequel?

What are the possible conditions?

Against this background, Hesse's Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) has now shown himself optimistic that there could soon be an agreement on a follow-up offer for the 9-euro ticket in local transport, reports fnp.de.

The exact design is part of the discussions.

A price between 49 and 69 euros is currently the most discussed.

Al-Wazir himself had previously proposed "a 31-euro ticket for those in need and a 69-euro ticket for everyone else".

The state politician estimated that this would cost around two billion euros.

The "good and constructive atmosphere" at the conference of transport ministers gives reason to hope "that a solution can be found quickly," he said on Monday in Wiesbaden.

At the same time, Al-Wazir insisted that the federal government should give the states more money to finance public transport operations.

Successor to the 9-euro ticket in Hesse: there are still many unanswered questions

The federal and state governments are aiming for an agreement on a follow-up offer for the 9-euro ticket by mid-October.

All countries had announced that they could imagine carrying a connection ticket, said the chairwoman of the conference of transport ministers, Maike Schaefer (Greens) from Bremen after consultations with Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP).

A working group is now to start discussions on this.

At the same time, however, the federal states expected that this would be linked to an increase in the general regionalization funds of the federal government.

The federal states use the money from Berlin to order services from the transport companies.

"Personnel and energy costs are rising significantly, even the current operation of buses and trains can hardly be financed by the federal states and municipalities - the necessary expansion of the offer certainly not," argued Al-Wazir.

Accordingly, there are still numerous points to be clarified before the 9-euro ticket comes back to Hesse.
