Patxi López replies to the socialist president of Castilla-La Mancha that with Bildu's votes pensions or the minimum vital income have been raised in the face of the rejection of Feijóo's PP

Patxi López is not only the new spokesperson for Pedro Sánchez's PSOE in Congress.

He was his rival in the primaries to lead the party and is one of today's most respected socialist figures.

he was

lehendakari

and a season president of the Congress.

Because of this baggage, he has once again become part of the leadership of Sánchez's PSOE and was on Tuesday in charge of replying to the barrages of Emiliano García Page, the president of Castilla-La Mancha, who on Monday was dispatched in an interview with strong criticism. to the President of the Government and his alliances in Congress with United We Can and the independentistas.

López thus reminded Page: "The government is not there to be comfortable, but to do what has to be done in times of difficulty."

And he specified that thanks to those "bad companies" that Page reproaches Sánchez - he quoted EH Bildu - the rise in pensions and the minimum vital income has gone ahead in the face of the opposition of the PP.

The new spokesman for the PSOE in Congress did not want to wait this Tuesday, after the weekly Board of Spokespersons, for journalists to interrogate him about the internal conflict discovered by Page in his interview this past Monday in

El Mundo

.

He not only lamented the cost that it could entail for the Socialists, and for the regional and local candidates who face elections on May 28, but also disavowed the open campaign from the Executive and the PSOE against the solvency of the opposition leader , the popular Alberto Núñez Feijóo, whom he does consider “solvent”.

Feijóo and Page have maintained a good political and personal relationship for years in their respective stages as regional presidents.

The PSOE, now, is not for those nuances and this Tuesday delved into the criticism of the socialist baron of Castilla-La Mancha on several fronts.

The toughest, due to the form and symbolic background of his opinions, was Patxi López, who began by recalling that he had been attending all the party's federal and territorial committees for years and had not seen the PSOE for a long time "without no type of internal tension, strong and united” like now with Pedro Sánchez at the helm.

López especially highlighted that this PSOE is fully aligned in its policies, from Europe, to the central, regional or local government, "in its social democratic project", compared to the divergences that they do observe in "the PP of Feijóo not comparable" , both with its European brand and with some barons or territorial leaders, such as Isabel Díaz Ayuso from Madrid.

The Socialist and

former Lehendakari

spokesman acknowledged that he does not like to vote for many proposals or projects with EH Bildu either, but he considered it a lesser evil.

And he explained to Page the advantages of realism and “dialogue and understanding” in politics with two examples: “We have voted with Bildu to raise pensions, why?

Because the PP did not want.

We have voted with Bildu to raise the minimum vital income, why?

Because the PP voted against.

The spokeswoman for the Executive, Isabel Rodríguez, a countrywoman from Page, also delved into that line of "defense at all costs" of the social work addressed in this mandate by the Cabinet: "This is how I like the Government to be valued, with criteria of social profitability”.

And she rescued a phrase that President Sánchez repeated several times in front of Feijóo in his recent debate in the Senate on the profile and questionable preparation of the opposition leader: “Either it is insolvency or it is bad faith.

I prefer to think of the first because the second has a bad arrangement”.

López clarified in this sense that if Feijóo is not "insolvent" when he makes many of his criticisms against the Government, it is because he acts in "bad faith."

Socialist ministers share privately that García-Page “has not been successful”.

And they emphasize: “When the brand does well, we all benefit.

And vice versa".

The unchecking of the Castilian-La Mancha president forced several of his regional colleagues to speak out.

The closing of ranks with the Government was the general trend.

“I do not share the diagnosis of permanent confrontation.

You cannot be loyal to Spain if you are not loyal to the political project that is represented”, disagreed with the president of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara.

“The political project that we represent has always been absolutely loyal to Spain.

The PSOE has always been with Spain when it has been necessary and what it has sought throughout its history is a better and fairer Spain”, he added.

The president of the Valencian Community, Ximo Puig, commented: "I am not here to comment on the statements of other presidents, but it is true that there is a fundamental value that is coherence."

"In the Federal Political Council on Saturday in Zaragoza there was a general agreement regarding a political strategy and I think we have to try to be consistent, nothing more," he settled.

Concha Andreu, president of La Rioja, emphasized that García-Page "speaks in his code, very concretely" —alluding to the fact that he needs an absolute majority to govern in a conservative community—, but he fully supported the Government and the leadership of the PSOE: "You don't have to say if Feijóo is one thing or another, you have to refer to the facts and the statements he has made, and lately they don't agree,

like when he talks about energy policy or taxes on the extraordinary profits of electricity companies”.

The president of Aragon, Javier Lambán, recommended for his part "remove iron and not take out of context" with "wrong conclusions" the words of García-Page: "The PSOE has never been a court of the Inquisition, that's why I'm a member of it ”.

Patxi López claimed, in this context, the importance, in these times of international, economic and social crisis, of governing and legislating to approve projects that improve people's lives and "land on reality".

It was there when the veteran socialist leader took the opportunity to extol Sánchez's leadership throughout Europe to the fullest.

And then he clarified to the former leader of United We Can and former Vice President of the Government, Pablo Iglesias, that the PSOE is not wrong to bet on candidates like Page, who governs in Castilla-La Mancha with an absolute majority: "Iglesias would like to have those results ”.

The lack of media coverage of Page has been very bad among many leaders of the PSOE, current and former.

A former minister and socialist official emphasized: “Page thinks he is José Bono, but he is not.

Bono made a differentiation with the national leadership, but with

finesse

and on issues that interested the citizens of his community, especially: the route of the AVE, the transfer of water.

Page's criticisms are so aggressive towards Sánchez that they could generate a rebound from his socialist voters in Castilla-La Mancha.

Maybe he captures votes on the right with that speech, but maybe worse goes to the left”.
