Vox continues to heat up the Cortes of Castilla y León.
The Vice President of the Board, Juan García-Gallardo, autonomous leader of the extreme right-wing party, has called the Ciudadanos attorney and his predecessor in office, Francisco Igea, an "imbecile" during Tuesday's session in Parliament.
He was criticizing Gallardo when he interrupted his speech after hearing the insult, which, although it cannot be heard from the booths of Parliament or in the recordings as the microphone is turned off, politicians from various groups claim to have heard.
Igea has asked the president of the Chamber, Carlos Pollán (Vox) to reprimand the high official, but Pollán has urged him to continue with his speech: "Continue."
The acoustics of the Parliament of Valladolid is known among prosecutors because "everything is heard", according to several of them consulted by EL PAÍS.
Thus, after Igea received the outburst, she turned to Gallardo: "Did he call me an idiot?"
The leader of Vox, reclining on his chair, nodded and added: "And alleged criminal."
Igea has reminded his successor in the vice presidency that the one who is being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office —for an alleged prevarication in the use of public resources for partisan purposes— is Gallardo himself.
The two have been at odds for weeks.
Igea was commenting ironically from the lectern the appearance of the partner of the President of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco (PP), in a television cooking program.
Francisco Igea, asked by EL PAÍS at the end of the plenary session, insisted on what he replied to his rival: "He is a kid who is uneducated, Pollán has not dared to correct him."
Parliamentary sources lament a "horrible degradation" of the level of debate, because in that chamber it is rare that, beyond certain attacks between groups, disqualifications are reached.
A few months ago, Gallardo snapped at a socialist prosecutor with a disability that he would address her "as if she were a normal person," something that caused great controversy.
