It would allow, since these territories would pass under the Russian flag, authority and protection, to justify their protection to the nation.
If the Ukrainians were to maintain their attacks on these territories, Vladimir Putin could therefore require an additional effort to defend them.
Which,
ultimately,
raises two questions: the advisability of a general or partial mobilization, and the use of a nuclear weapon.
Russian doctrine indeed provides for the use of nuclear deterrence in the event of an attack on its territory.
