The Wolfratshausen city council decided on energy saving measures at its most recent meeting.

He also made a very unpopular decision.

Wolfratshausen – The city council has gone on an energy saving course.

Against the background of the measures specified by the federal government, the citizens' representatives voted for numerous cuts in their meeting on Tuesday in the Loisachhalle.

They also did not shy away from a very unpopular decision: In the winter of 2022/23 there will be no "ice age" at the old raft landing after all.

The “alert level of the gas emergency plan” has been in effect in Germany since June.

So that the energy supply can be secured in winter, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) appeals to municipalities, companies and citizens: "Saving energy is the order of the next few months." This request should not go unheeded, so the tenor in the city council.

"The city administration also sees the need," explained the environmental and climate protection manager in the city hall, Vivian Horngacher.

Only Richard Kugler (Wolfratshauser List) consistently refused to give his consent to all the resolutions proposed by the administration.

In the federal government's "pamphlet" with a view to the savings potential at municipal level, "it just says nonsense," says Kugler.

"Ice Age" in winter 2021/22: 22,570 kilowatt hours of electricity consumption

With 12:6 votes, the final decision was made on Tuesday: There will be no "ice age" this winter.

The city council's culture committee had already rejected a rerun of the "Ice Age" in April - but the council took up the topic again, not least because of great public outrage: With 16:5 votes, the committee cleared the way for the artificial ice surface again Loisachufer.

Now the role was reversed.

The extreme energy consumption is simply no longer justifiable.

Renate Tilke (CSU)

Jennifer Layton conceded that the "ice age," which the city council's youth officer had always championed, was "a big drain on energy."

Her parliamentary colleague, Third Mayor Annette Heinloth, expressly regretted the cancellation, but took the view that in view of an impending “emergency winter” “everyone should make a contribution”.

If the citizens shiver in their apartments in December, "it will be very funny", says Heinloth, "when the 'Ice Age' lights up in Wolfratshausen".

According to Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner (Citizens' Association), the consumption of the refrigeration unit and lighting last winter totaled 22,570 kilowatt hours of electricity.

The "extreme energy consumption" is "simply no longer responsible", stated Renate Tilke (CSU).

Fritz buckler (SPD) described the ice skating fun as a "wonderful thing", but there are people "they have completely different problems at the moment", he classified the topic in the context of the war in Ukraine.

The alternative: ice skating in the Geretsried ice rink

Gerlinde Berchtold (SPD) showed an alternative: She is also "very sorry" that there will be no "ice age" this year, but the runners would have the opportunity to do their laps in the Geretsried ice stadium.

Last but not least, this helps the ESC River Rats, whose operating costs are getting out of control due to the explosion in energy costs.

Speaking of costs: the termination of the contracts already concluded with the ice cream maker costs the rafting town around 23,000 euros.

Ultimately, Heilinglechner, Dr.

Ulrike Krischke and Josef Praller (all citizens' association), Helmut Forster and Richard Kugler (both Wolfratshauser Liste) and youth officer Layton (Greens).

Twelve city councilors voted against an "ice age" this winter.

Wolfratshausen: Christmas lights are reduced by half

According to the 17:2 resolution of the city council, the Christmas lights will be significantly reduced this year.

According to the "extrapolation" by Green Councilor Rudi Seibt, it consumes almost 3500 kilowatt hours of electricity during the Advent season.

Among other things, it is planned to hang up all the garlands in the old town – but only to switch on every second chain of lights.

And: The Sebastiani footbridge will probably not be illuminated at all, and Seibt also suggested switching off the Christmas lights from New Year's Day.

Patrick Lechner (FDP) and Krischke warned against going without too much: A good measure of Christmas decorations are necessary to create a "shopping experience", because the badly battered retail trade is dependent on good Christmas business.

"The city should allow itself a little Christmas magic," Tilke seconded the duo.

6,500 kilowatt power consumption: Loisach fountain stays off

The Loisach fountain at the old raft landing has been missing for two years.

According to the head of the town hall, a flood swept away the anchorage.

For the time being, the fountain (6,500 kilowatts of annual electricity consumption) will be dispensed with.

The decision was made against the votes of Praller and Kugler.

Only cold water in the Wolfratshausen sports halls?

With a large majority, the city council commissioned the administration on Tuesday to examine whether the hot water treatment in the municipal gymnasium and sports halls can be switched off.

If so, the athletes would have to shower with cold water.

The citizens' representatives have already lashed down: The maximum temperatures in the city's sports facilities will be lowered to 17 degrees.

City Councilor Lechner concluded: "We have the choice between plague and cholera." If energy consumption is not reduced in solidarity, "in the worst case, private households will be left without electricity in winter".
