"So much anger and hate": Söder's daughter about the dark side of a famous father

His daughter Gloria-Sophie - a successful model - admits that Papa Markus Söder's fame helps.

But there are also downsides.

Munich – Gloria-Sophie Burkandt currently earns her money with models.

But her interests go beyond fashion and cosmetics.

It is also politics that appeals to her.

This is not least due to her prominent father: Markus Söder.

As @gloriasophieee, she keeps her fans up to date on her modeling career on Instagram.

Söder's daughter shows up in an elegant evening dress as well as in jeans.

And of course in a dirndl, like recently at the Munich Oktoberfest.

There Gloria-Sophie appeared with her new boyfriend.

The dad a politician in the limelight, who is not undisputed and sometimes polarizes - curse or blessing?

His daughter admits that fame helps.

“There are so many models that you don't even appear anymore.

Most of the supermodels were with Leonardo di Caprio or have well-known parents," jokes Gloria-Sophie in an interview with the dpa news agency.

But it is also ambiguous.

“I have to understand that not everyone is happy with it.

You have to stand together as a family, no matter what happens.”

"I get a lot of hate comments": Gloria-Sophie Burkandt on the downside

She feels the dark side especially in social media.

"I get a lot of hate comments, mainly because of my father." But she doesn't care.

"Sometimes people have so much anger and hatred inside them that you shouldn't project that onto yourself."

She is also used to putting up a fight.

As a child, she was bullied by some, also because of her size.

But those times are over now.

Gloria-Sophie is 1.85 meters tall and seems at peace with herself.

She also found love with her new boyfriend.

"We're both happy," she admitted.

The 23-year-old, who studied business management, is currently working on her doctoral thesis.

The topic: Greenwashing in the fashion industry, i.e. the tricks with which companies want to give themselves a sustainable coat of paint.

A hot topic.

Can you imagine going into politics?

“Definitely for the future.

I feel like it and I find it fascinating,” says Burkandt.

But now is not the right time for that, she says.

“Now my father is the focus and it should stay that way for the time being.” In any case, she doesn’t know where she will be in a few years.

“I want to unite everything a little bit.

Politics, economy, fashion.

It's the mix that counts."

When Gloria was born in 1998, her father was a member of the Bavarian state parliament for the CSU.

In 2007 he became Europe Minister, then Environment Minister and later Finance Minister.

Söder has been prime minister since 2018, when his daughter was almost 20.

Gloria-Sophie grew up largely undisturbed in Nuremberg.

“I had a great childhood.

There weren't my father's shadows, that was simply ignored," she recalled in an interview with the dpa.

She traces her interest in environmental issues back to this time.

"I always had to do something out in nature, that grounded me," she says.

"That's why I think it's so important that you don't take this basis away from people."

Burkandt, recently on the cover of the Turkish fashion magazine "Vogue", appears determined and self-confident.

This also has to do with a visit to the hairdresser, where she had her long mane cut off.

"Many think that as the daughter of a politician I'm totally stuffy." She therefore sees the short hair as a statement: "I like this rocking style".

She didn't find it difficult to cut her hair.

"It was liberating," she admits.

"I feel more like a woman now than with long hair.

Hair or curves are not decisive."
