Piggyback principle: One tractor, many loading options: This is the swap body concept of the District Fire Inspectorate, here with a vehicle from the Erding volunteer fire brigade.

Now Isen comes into play.

The Isen fire brigade will soon take on an important role in civil protection for the entire district.

This works via a sophisticated vehicle concept for district fire inspection.

Erding/Isen - Fire engines are special vehicles that often serve a very specific purpose.

This means that the municipalities have to have a lot of vehicles in order to be prepared for all eventualities.

Because these are individually configured companions, they cost a lot of money.

Half a million euros is quickly reached.

In order to save money and to be quickly equipped and mobile in the event of an alarm, the district fire inspection has been using the swap-body principle for years, especially for regional operations.

That means: Instead of purchasing many individual vehicles, a tractor unit is purchased that can accommodate completely different roll-off containers, for example for technical assistance, ABC operations or hose material.

Now the next purchase is pending: a swap body with a crane and a container full of equipment for dangerous goods alarms.

He is to be stationed with the Isen volunteer fire brigade.

The District Committee approved the purchase.

In total, it's about 425,000 euros.

The government of Upper Bavaria contributes almost 80,000 euros, and the district accounts for 346,000 euros.

A local company put out the tender: a-on AG automation from Oberding.

The contract went to MAN and Palfinger, who submitted the most economical bids.

District Fire Councilor Willi Vogl reported at the meeting: "It is a very tried and tested concept." Initially, they wanted to station the new hazardous goods swap storage facility at the Erding base fire brigade, but then decided on the area.

According to Vogl, Isen said it was a large and centrally located weir.

The community can now save themselves the purchase of their own new vehicle.

In addition, Vogl announced that it intends to expand the "piggyback principle" further.

Another swap body vehicle is to be ordered in 2023 – with a focus on water/foam, among other things to fight forest fires.

Vogl explained that he was also reacting to climate change and the increased risk of forest fires.
