Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the United States against becoming a direct party to the war waged by his country against the neo-Nazis in Ukraine.
“The collective West, led by the United States, is openly seeking to defeat Russia on the battlefield and they are ready to sacrifice Ukraine for their geopolitical goals, and to achieve them they pump the country with weapons,” Minister Lavrov said in an exclusive interview with Newsweek during meetings on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This leads to an escalation and prolongation of the conflict.”
Lavrov noted that Washington, through its actions in sponsoring the anti-Russian neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine, deploying military equipment and turning the territory of Ukraine into a springboard for containing Russia, left it no choice but to conduct a special military operation whose goals are well known, which is to protect the Donbass population and eliminate threats to Russia's security. The demilitarization of Ukraine and these goals are fixed and will be achieved no matter how long it takes.
The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, had warned the United States against continuing to supply Kyiv with weapons because of the unpredictable repercussions.
