The president believes that it is a mistake that Andalusia competes with Madrid in lowering taxes on the rich and opens the door to a tax on large fortunes

The controversy over the words of the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, in which he questioned the strategy of La Moncloa against Alberto Núñez Feijóo and argued that the former Galician president is insolvent, as Pedro Sánchez has pointed out several times and his ministers, caught the president in New York for the UN summit.

From there, Sánchez gave clear instructions to his own: several leaders transferred the discomfort of La Moncloa and Ferraz Street with García-Page, who in some way has broken a strategy that the president and his team had been consolidating during the summer and the start of course.

What bothered the socialist leadership and the government the most is that García-Page had already met with

El Mundo,

interview in which he expressed his criticism, when this Saturday he went to a meeting of all the socialist barons in Zaragoza designed for exactly the opposite, to show a show of unity and try to prevent each regional leader from going on his own or starting to make a campaign far removed from the national line established by Sánchez himself.

In Zaragoza everything went apparently well, but on Monday those same barons met with the interview, which almost meant an amendment to the entirety of Sánchez's strategy.

And not only in his criticism of Feijóo, but also in his alliances with ERC and Bildu and several nationalists to carry out all the progressive and social protection laws of the legislature so far.

Sánchez, as usual, was behind the movements of all his ministers and the leadership of the PSOE - power is very vertical in his environment and practically nothing can be done without his authorization - but he did not want to talk about the matter from New York and avoided the press for the first two days.

This Wednesday, shortly before participating in the Latin America, United States and Spain in the Global Economy forum, organized by EL PAÍS and the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce, in an informal meeting with the journalists who follow the trip, Sánchez has avoided entering to the direct clash with García-Page when he has been expressly asked about him on two occasions, but he has shown the evident discomfort of the Government and has insisted on a call for unity in the PSOE.

The President of the Government maintains that "what is important is the image of unity that came out of Zaragoza", that is, in the meeting in which Page was present and in which, according to several regional presidents, he did not show any discrepancy beyond pointing out that It should not be the president who entered the clash with Feijóo, but his ministers or socialist leaders.

"The PSOE has to be united in the idea that we are the party that protects the working class," Sánchez insisted as a clear message of discomfort with the statements by the president of Castilla-La Mancha that have broken the management's strategy.

Sánchez also criticized Andalusia, in the hands of the PP, for entering into competition with Madrid by abolishing the wealth tax, as the PP Executive has done in the Community of Madrid.

For the president, it is a mistake that Andalusia enters that "competition to see who lowers taxes the richest the most."

In his opinion, if other regions that are not host to the capital enter into competition with Madrid for lower taxes, the latter will always win, because it has the advantage of the capital effect.

It is in other things where it should compete, such as renewable energy or any other industry with a future, and not in the battle to lower taxes for 0.2% of the population, who are taxed on assets.

The Government has disavowed the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá,

Sánchez has also reinforced the line opened by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, to raise the possibility of a tax on large fortunes, something that the PSOE rejected throughout the legislature every time United We Can demand it.

Sánchez believes that the war has caused an exceptional situation and different measures must be considered, especially with the idea of a fairer distribution of the consequences of the crisis.

That is why he has announced a tax on large energy companies, another on banking and now he is open to including this tax on large fortunes, of which there are still not many details, in the next Budgets.
