The economy in the greater Munich area is worried about its own location if the S-Bahn is not expanded quickly and sustainably.

Erding - This is emphasized by Manfred Gößl, General Manager of the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria.

In a statement, he warns of further delays in the infrastructure project.

“Bahn and politicians have to be careful not to talk the entire project down or even call it into question in the discussion about financing and responsibility.

The expansion of the main route is indispensable for the people and the economy in the greater Munich area.”

The IHK sees the future of sustainable mobility in the “flexible use of individual and public transport”.

The changeover, for example between car, S-Bahn and U-Bahn or bus, must be fundamentally improved.

"But that only works with sufficient capacity on the main route, the backbone of Munich's local transport system.

That is why the second tunnel is so important.”

The head of the IHK emphasizes that increasing commuter flows and further population growth in the area surrounding the state capital make this investment in local public transport essential for the entire economic area.

“Traffic in Munich and the surrounding area has been reaching its limits for years.

Rail traffic has demonstrably already exceeded its load limit.”

Gößl makes it clear: "A traffic collapse would massively damage the attractiveness and future viability of the greater Munich area as a top location for the German economy." ham
