-- The Ecuadorian Prosecutor's Office initiated criminal proceedings on charges of hired assassins against two men for the murder of the People and Guarantees Prosecutor Édgar Escobar, which occurred this Monday.

The suspects, arrested minutes after the crime, were traveling on a motorcycle from where, says the Public Ministry, they shot prosecutor Escobar.

A Guayas criminal guarantees judge issued measures against the two suspects in the homicide.

For one of them he ordered preventive detention and requested his incarceration in the Litoral Penitentiary.

While for the other detainee - 16 years old - he asked a juvenile judge to resolve his legal situation.

The judge for juvenile offenders ordered the preventive internment of the minor and the transfer to the center for adolescent offenders in Guayaquil, according to the Prosecutor's Office in a statement.

The judge also ordered protection measures for the relatives of the murdered prosecutor, a complainant and a police officer who participated in the arrest of the two suspects.

The Ecuadorian National Police reported on Monday that they had captured two "alleged perpetrators of the violent death of the prosecutor", and that they had seized a firearm and a motorcycle allegedly used to commit the crime.

CNN contacted the Directorate of Communication of the Public Defender's Office, which indicated that both defendants have a public defender, although it was not specified how they declared themselves before the accusations.
