Damascus-SANA

The importance of the national campaign to investigate cancer is increasing at the present time due to the economic conditions that have negatively affected a large segment of citizens and due to a relative decline in the services provided by the public health system, which may lead to the delay of many men from carrying out periodic examinations for early detection of certain diseases, some of which are associated with growing old.

Among the medical services provided by the national campaign, whether at the level of public hospitals or mobile clinics, is drawing a blood sample to examine the prostate in order to investigate prostate cancer, this silent disease that hides its symptoms for a long time before it turns into a fatal disease in the event of treatment delay.

According to some Western statistics, prostate cancer is one of the most common tumors in the world, and in some countries it ranks first in terms of prevalence.

In Syria, prostate cancer ranked fifth, according to the statistics of 2020, with a rate of 9 percent among male cancers.

And because prostate cancer can be cured if it is detected early, i.e. when it is confined to the prostate gland, the national campaign for cancer screening is an ideal opportunity for all men from the age of fifty and above, especially those who have a family history, they should go to the fixed and mobile centers and do these tests In particular, it is free and close to residential areas, and if it is not, mobile clinics provide residents in remote places with a means of transportation from their places of residence to the location of the clinics and return them after examination.

It is noteworthy that prostate cancer does not show symptoms in its early stages, but as it progresses, symptoms appear that are embodied in difficulty urinating or the presence of blood in the urine or semen with bone pain and weight loss. In addition to the unknown causes until now, black-skinned people are more likely to develop prostate cancer, as well as those who have a family history of disease and are overweight.

Last February, the National Committee for Cancer Control announced a campaign for early detection of cervical, breast and prostate cancers in health centers and hospitals in various governorates, which began on March 2 in Tartous governorate and then moved from June 16 to the end of July to Lattakia and launched in Hama. Last Monday, it will continue until the ninth of next November under the slogan “Your awareness is your strength.”
