The background to the unusual incident - this is not an anti-Semitic incident, but a protest by bereaved parents from one of the most shocking episodes in the country's history.

The Israeli Embassy in Mexico City was vandalized tonight with graffiti, some of which read "Death to Israel".

The background to the unusual incident - this is not an anti-Semitic incident, but a protest by bereaved parents from one of the most shocking incidents that happened within the framework of the drug cartel wars in Mexico - the kidnapping and murder of the 43 students in the city of Iguala in 2014.

The parents protest that one of the people allegedly involved in the massacre case, Tomas Saron, who at the time served as the head of Mexico's criminal investigation unit, is hiding in Israel, which is delaying his extradition request.

The beginning of the affair, some of the details of which remain in the fog to this day, was an innocent demonstration by students against the economic policy of the Mexican government, which was supposed to be held in the city of Chilpancingo in the state of Guerrero.

The Mexican authorities prevented this from the students, who therefore resorted to holding the demonstration in the city of Iguala.

When they arrived in Iguala, the students were arrested by the local police, apparently on the orders of the mayor.

For reasons that are not entirely clear, the police handed the students over to the members of the Garro Onidos cartel, who brutally murdered them and disappeared their bodies.

According to one hypothesis, the corrupt policemen and "Oneidos" people suspected that the students belonged to a rival cartel.

The remains of most of the students, who were murdered in a local dump, were never found: "We turned them into dust and threw what was left of them into the water," wrote one of the killers in a text message to the leader of the "Gerro Unidos" cartel, according to publications in Mexico.

The case shocked the country and ignited a wave of demonstrations and popular protest against the rule of the then president, Enrique Pena Nieto.

Saron, who was in charge of investigating the kidnapping and massacre, published a questionable report that included a cover-up of the government's involvement in the incident. International bodies rejected the report's conclusions, as did the current president of Mexico, Manuel Lopez Obrador.

In another investigation opened following the protest, a complete Pandora's box allegedly linked to Saron was discovered, and an arrest warrant was issued against him on suspicion of torture, tampering with evidence, embezzling tens of millions of dollars and using the Pegasus software of the Israeli company NSO for the purpose of spying on journalists and public figures in Mexico.

Saron fled to Israel via Canada about three years ago, and according to various publications he is hiding in an apartment in the Neve Tzedek tower in Tel Aviv.

The Mexican government submitted an official extradition request to Israel, but the procedure is still ongoing.

According to sources in Mexico who spoke to the "New York Times", Jerusalem is delaying the extradition of Saron as a kind of "diplomatic revenge" for the fact that Mexico previously supported UN investigations against Israel.

The response of the international department at the state attorney's office will be provided when received.
