An earthquake struck northwest Italy today, but no casualties or damage were reported.
The Italian Aki news agency quoted the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology as saying that "an earthquake hit the city of Genoa, northwest of the country, with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale."
According to the local authorities in Genoa, residents in the city center felt the tremor and fled their homes and workplaces, but emergency teams did not receive requests to intervene, and the authorities did not announce human or material losses.
