"He hid the shipments inside the lighting fixture grocery store":
A resident of Modi'in Illit was arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle more than 200 thousand electronic cigarettes in order to avoid paying more than NIS 36 million in taxes.
Israel Whiskey, a resident of Modi'in Illit, was arrested today (Thursday) by the Tax Authority, on suspicion of trying to smuggle into Israel about 207,200 electronic cigarettes and another 95 liters of e-liquid, without paying sales tax and VAT on them.
Also, Whiskey is suspected of trying to import taser devices and pepper spray into Israel, which are prohibited for import because they are considered weapons.
The police stopped containers with smuggled electronic cigarettes in Ashdod port (for illustration),
According to the suspicion, Israel Whiskey is the actual owner and manager of Multi Led Ltd., which is engaged in the import of lighting fixtures. Officially, the company is registered under another name, Ish Kash, an ultra-Orthodox Yeshiva student, a resident of Modi'in Illit, but the Tax Authority claims that this is a fictitious registration intended To obscure the identity of Whiskey as the true owner of the company responsible for the alleged smuggling.
In recent days, four containers in the company's name that arrived at Ashdod port were inspected and it was declared that they contain LED lighting fixtures.
During the inspection, the electronic cigarettes and the bag container were discovered, while they were disguised inside the containers.
According to an estimate, the value of the tax on the electronic cigarettes in the containers amounts to more than NIS 36 million, which would have been deducted from the state coffers if the alleged smuggling had not been discovered.
The suspect was released under restrictive conditions and his investigation continues.
