Several members of the state parliament traveled to Russia, it should also go to eastern Ukraine. The federal party distanced itself from the trip. There should now be consequences for an NRW MP.

The North Rhine-Westphalian AfD parliamentary group wants to throw MP Christian Blex out of the group.

This reports the "world" and was confirmed to SPIEGEL from AfD circles.

The parliamentary group therefore decided on Wednesday to place the application for the exclusion of Blex on the agenda of the next parliamentary group meeting next Tuesday.

According to the rules of procedure of the AfD parliamentary group, two thirds of the members must agree to an exclusion.

The motion has already been supported by more than two-thirds of the parliamentary group.

The North Rhine-Westphalian AfD parliamentary group leader Martin Vincentz said that after hearing Blex, the parliamentary group would "discuss further regulatory measures".

“The disclosure of the financing and implementation of the trip will be part of the subject matter.” Group Vice Sven Tritschler told SPIEGEL: “A corresponding procedure has been initiated, but also allows for a milder sanction or no sanction at all.

Of course, the person concerned will be given the opportunity to comment.«

Blex traveled to Russia earlier this week with two AfD members of the state parliament from Saxony-Anhalt and two AfD members from North Rhine-Westphalia.

A trip to the Russian-occupied areas in eastern Ukraine was also originally planned.

AfD boss Alice Weidel described the trip as a "private trip" on Tuesday, which "was not agreed with the party or with the parliamentary group".

However, at least the member of the Bundestag Stefan Keuter should have been informed about the travel plans.

Several participants report that Keuter said in the parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday afternoon that he had been informed "by Moscow" several weeks ago that a group of AfD politicians wanted to travel to Donetsk.

He also spoke about this with the so-called Foreign Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.

However, he himself advised Blex against the trip.

Keuter confirmed to "Welt" that he "had received information from the Russian side weeks ago" that AfD politicians "had asked to be able to travel to the Donetsk region in October 2022".

He then "urgently advised against the trip for various reasons" to a fellow party member.

"Furthermore, I had the Russian side share my assessment of the benefits of the trip and the importance of members of the state parliament for the foreign policy of the party or the parliamentary group who are not traveling on an official mission, but only as private individuals or in the free exercise of their duties mandates,” said Keuter.

'I thought that would have made the trip unnecessary.

I was all the more astonished when I received the information on Monday that three members of the state parliament had made the trip.«
