B 15 will probably remain closed in winter

The prefabricated bridge parts will not be delivered until the end of November and will be positioned by a crane.

Then it will probably be too cold for the necessary asphalt work.

This means that the provisional opening of the B15 Isen Bridge is questionable.

Dorfen – At least in winter free travel on the B 15 – some Dorfeners have this hope.

Finally, representatives of the State Building Authority announced this goal in the city council at the end of July.

But according to the current status of the construction work, there is a big question mark behind this plan.

Because the 14 prefabricated parts that will make up the new Isen Bridge will be delivered in calendar week 48, i.e. at the end of November, and lifted onto the foundations by a crane.

It is only with great luck that it is not too cold afterwards for the necessary concrete and asphalt work.

"The challenge will be to complete the waterproofing," reports Thomas Jakob, spokesman for the Freising State Building Authority, during a visit to the local newspaper on the construction site.

According to him, this requires several days with temperatures above eight degrees – continuously, including at night.

“We are doing everything we can to get the bridge passable.

A definitive statement is currently not possible," explains Jakob.

If things go well, a temporary layer of asphalt can be laid, which can then be driven over.

"Plan B would be to enclose and heat the entire construction site," says Jakob.

But given the bridge's length of 37 meters and rising energy prices, that's not a realistic option.

The biggest obstacle in the summer was the unexpectedly hard ground in the river bed (we reported).

Contrary to what the selective investigations had led to hope, the ground was so hard that the sheet pile walls could not be rammed into the ground using the usual method.

"We wanted to do everything from a pontoon," explains Jakob.

Instead, a wall had to be raised on which heavy equipment could roll into the middle of the river.

“Then the piling equipment was not immediately available.

So everything is delayed again by a few days.”

There was a similar problem with the release of explosive ordnance.

A first examination from the boat did not bring any clear results.

"There is simply too much metallic waste in the Isen." Here, too, soundings from solid ground were necessary - the next delay.

14 precast concrete parts form the basic structure of the bridge.

They are to rest on the abutments in the north and south and on a pillar in the middle of the Isen.

All of these supporting elements are currently being completed.

Iron benders are currently working on the central pillar five meters below the water level.

They shape the steel reinforcement for the foundation.

"The foundation will then be poured next week," explains Jakob.

On top of this concrete floor slab comes a layer of gravel and then concrete again.

"We hope to be done with that by the end of October."

The paving work on the neighboring Altöttinger Tor has also been delayed.

"It should be ready by the start of the school year.

Now it will be the end of next week,” explains Jakob.

The height of the curb in this area was recently coordinated between the city and the state building authority.

In the passage through the gate, the edge must be high so that there is a certain level of impact protection.

At the exit to Jahnstraße, the curb is lower, as requested by the city – but is still clearly separated from the road.

The traffic light at this point has already been renewed.

It now has a signal system for visually impaired people.

The current construction schedule provides for a release at the beginning of June.

This prospect had caused enormous resentment in the city council before the summer break.

Finally, there is the danger that the anniversary festival will fall into a traffic jam.

The daily detour traffic through the city center would severely disrupt performances on the lower market.

You haven't had to deal with delivery problems yet, says Jakob.

On the other hand, vandalism is a daily problem on the construction site.

Construction fences are demolished and signs thrown into the Isen.

"In the meantime, we screw the site fences to the ground and we have to secure the screw connections," reports Jakob.
