CSU boss Markus Söder is not known for cautious, quiet tones.

Recent example: A tweet in which the Prime Minister takes care of the beer tent culture.

Munich – There is still a long way to go, but CSU boss Markus Söder should have a firm eye on the upcoming state elections in Bavaria next year.

Not soon enough, one might think, one can go hunting for votes.

The Prime Minister, who had already attracted attention through numerous folk festival appearances, is now drawing attention to himself with a Twitter post.

However, clear dissenting voices were not long in coming.

Söder's Twitter post backfires: "After six beers again on Twitter?"

But what is it about?

The tweet was posted on Wednesday September 21st.

There Söder writes: “Wokeness is illiberal philistinism.

We stand for freedom and the Bavarian Liberalitas Bavariae.” Then it becomes “concrete”: “Everyone should dress, eat and talk as they want.

We want police officers on the street, but no language police in the beer tent!” With this, the CSU boss repeatedly joins the debates that have been going on for some time, which have been busy dealing with gender or the correctness of Karl Mai films.

Angry tongues could claim that the beer tent paragraph in particular is a direct address to the folk festival mood at the Oktoberfest in order to convert the exuberance into potential CSU sympathy.

But the tweet does not remain free of criticism, on the contrary.

The Berlin journalist Florian Neuhof, for example, commented smugly: "Who doesn't know it, after six beers again on Twitter?" But "Mareile", head of digital communication at polisphere, does not leave Söder's words uncommented on Twitter: "They just want to hang up crosses, Forbid cannabis and gender and Anton Hofreiter believe nothing because of his haircut.

You are a free-floating brawler and an opportunist.

It's the only free thing here." The comment garnered over eight thousand likes.

A sign that the Prime Minister's "strategy" may backfire?

It remains to be seen whether the CSU boss can win over the humid and happy beer tent atmosphere at the Oktoberfest.

This will be clear by next year at the latest.
