Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that some countries should give up the exercise of hegemony and engage in conflicts within the so-called new Cold War.
Minister Wang added in a speech before the UN Security Council session on the situation in Ukraine that we all have to work to ensure the stability of global energy markets because the effects of the turmoil in them affect the whole world.
With regard to Ukraine, Wang noted the need to adhere to dialogue and negotiations in order to end the current crisis between Russia and Ukraine, adding that "the escalation must be reduced, international humanitarian law must be respected, and attacks targeting civilians must be prevented."
The Chinese Foreign Minister called on the Security Council to be impartial regarding the crisis in Ukraine and stressed that "prolonging the crisis is not in the interest of any party," expressing his country's hope for an urgent settlement.
Regarding the safety of nuclear facilities in this country, Wang stressed "the need to avoid risks in Ukraine's nuclear facilities," calling on the International Atomic Energy Agency to be impartial in dealing with these issues.
