Mittenwald – Stormy and thundery mountain weather cannot disturb a mountain infantryman: Alpspitze and Estergebirge showed their capricious side when the soldiers from the staff platoon and the 2nd company of the 233rd mountain infantry battalion in Mittenwald completed their mountain performance marches lasting several days near Garmisch-Patenkirchen graduated

With their hand in front of their eyes in the fog and in the pouring rain, the soldiers of the staff platoon climbed the Rinderscharte below the Alpspitze on the first day of their two-day performance march from Hammersbach via the Höllentalklamm.

Nevertheless, the soldiers did not let the good mood be taken away: So the long-awaited ray of hope came in the afternoon.

The dense cloud wall cleared.

Abseiling training took place on the rock face at the bivouac site in front of the Bernadeinkopf.

Nobody was deterred by the changeable weather: the next morning, the soldiers in climbing gear climbed the Alpspitze via the Ferrata path.

It then went down into the valley via the east ridge.

A day earlier, the 2nd Company set out on its three-day performance march.

The march route first led in sunshine from Eschenlohe up to the Hohe Kiste.

However, a thunderstorm settled in the Estergebirge, so that the route at the Oberen Risskopf had to be changed.

After a night in the bivouac in pouring rain and thunderstorms, the next day we went to the Hoher Fricken and the Hintere Esterbergalm, where we bivouacked again.

The descent took place on the third day over the Zunderkopf to Krün.

The soldiers had to complete a number of training stations along the way: they not only practiced abseiling and roping, but also caring for the wounded and mountain rescue of the wounded using the UT 2000 universal stretcher.

along which the soldiers could move safely.

The three-day mountain performance march would not have been possible without the friendly support of the alpine pasture owners, the shepherds and the municipalities.
