Confirmation of the agreement with Lebanon: the Right intends to take legal action against Yair Lapid Israel today

2022-09-22T05:39:22.665Z

Officials in Yemen sharply criticized the Prime Minister, who intends to approve the agreement without presenting it to the Knesset and without discussion in the government • Former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon: "Lapid surrendered to Nasrallah's threats, when we return to power we will conduct these negotiations from a position of strength" • Kohalat Forum Petitioned twice to the High Court to bring the agreement to public discussion: "A transitional government that makes border agreements, it should not do it in the dark"

The maritime agreement with Lebanon:

The right-wing sharply criticized Prime Minister Lapid's intention to approve the economic water agreement with Lebanon in a secret cabinet decision.

A senior political official confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) the disclosure by "Israel Hayom" according to which Lapid intends to take advantage of an exceptional clause in the government regulations to approve the agreement without presenting it in the Knesset and without discussion in the government.

Lapid's step arouses opposition on the right.

Opposition leader Netanyahu said that "Yair Lapid, who opposed the withdrawal of our gas, is now giving a gas field to Nasrallah.

He is handing over sovereign territories of Israel worth billions - without any supervision or discussion in the Knesset.

Lapid abandons Israel's security."

Israel's former ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said that "Lapid folds in the face of Nasrallah's threats."

After the elections, we will conduct the negotiations with Lebanon from a position of strength. He succumbed to Nasrallah's threats and transfers to Hezbollah the gas reserves that belong to the State of Israel. I call on Lapid, stop the negotiations and wait for the elections.

We will return to power and conduct this negotiation from a position of strength."

The Ecclesiastical Forum, which twice petitioned the High Court demanding that the emerging agreement be brought to public discussion, reiterated that the law requires a referendum to be held regarding it: "A transitional government that makes border agreements with our neighbors under the threats of Nasrallah - it should at least not do so in the dark.

If in any case the agreement will be published a moment after its signing, there is no legal or moral justification to keep it in the dark until the last minute.

It is appropriate to let the sovereign or his representatives in the Knesset know in advance what it is about.

"It seems that the political entity that spoke to 'Israel Today' does not know what democracy is. As for the issue of the referendum - if the Basic Law requires it, then everything is subject to it, even if this is inconvenient for certain political entities. To the best of our legal understanding, the delivery of Israeli assets in Israel's maritime territory requires a referendum in accordance with the Basic Law. In a country governed by the rule of law, the law must be obeyed, especially when the law fulfills elementary democratic interests."

The "Lavi" organization for proper administration, following the publication, sent a "Demand for the Exhaustion of Procedures" to the Prime Minister, Lapid and the alternate Prime Minister, Hafi Bennett, as well as to the Legal Adviser to the Government, claiming that Rabbi Miara changed the Ombudsman's instructions to allow the transfer of the agreement without the Knesset's approval.

Attorney Yossi Ben Baruch writes to her that "the plan to approve the agreement in secret, without disclosure to the public and without the approval of the Knesset, stems precisely from internal disputes and the concern of the transitional government, which does not enjoy the trust of the public, that the agreement will not be accepted by the Knesset and in the eyes of the public.

"The loophole for the approval of agreements by the cabinet only in emergency cases, its purpose is not to bypass the elected officials in Israel and the transparency of the government's activities, but to protect the state in emergency cases that require secrecy, using this loophole now exceeds its purpose. As long as the directive of the legal adviser to the government is not canceled, and as long as it is signed The agreement is confidential by the approval of the cabinet only, we will appeal to the competent court."

Lawyer Yossi Fox, the Likud candidate for the Knesset, also announced that he will take legal action demanding the disclosure of the agreement.

According to him, "This is a constitutional hijacking of the first order. I will ask you to present the opinion without delay, and at least seven days before the date of the cabinet discussion."
