In 2015, the containers installed by the municipality of Seefeld to accommodate refugees at Oberfeld in Hechendorf were a lifeline.

Today they are apparently in such a bad condition that they are to be dismantled prematurely.

Hechendorf

– In September 2015, the municipality of Seefeld purchased 48 used containers from the Scheitz dairy.

The dairy had housed its administration in them for years because a new building was being built on the site in Andechs.

The offer was just right for the municipality of Seefeld, because residential containers and air domes were scarce and expensive at the time due to the large influx of refugees, but the used office containers from the Scheitz dairy were cheap.

The municipality rented the facility to the district office for the accommodation of up to 40 refugees.

But now the containers are probably gone, they are now more than 20 years old.

They should be removed by the end of the year.

In their meeting on Tuesday, Seefeld's municipal councils approved the district office's proposal to terminate the existing lease prematurely,

Today, around 20 refugees always live in the facility.

The number fluctuates from day to day, as Mayor Klaus Kögel said yesterday when asked.

At the meeting, he reported that the district office had asked for the rental agreement to be checked "because the living conditions defied any description".

Word of this has long since got around, craftsmen would no longer go into the facility, the rooms and sanitary facilities would have to be “disinfected with heavy equipment”.

However, the people currently living there could be accommodated decentrally.

Johanna Senft (BVS), active in the asylum helper group from the start, confirmed the situation.

"The facility is in a degrading condition, social care is no longer possible there." A decentralized accommodation of the people is much better.

Ortwin Gentz (Greens/BI) wanted to know what role the refugees from Ukraine would play in the whole discussion.

"We should keep this aspect in mind, it's not over yet." According to Kögel, Ukrainians should never be housed together with the homeless.

But he also indicated that in the conversation with District Administrator Stefan Frey, there were signs of relaxation anyway.

"We may be able to get our gym back completely before long." As reported,

Christian Ruf (FWG) wanted to know more about what's going on with the containers.

"They are old, worn and not used properly," replied Ingo Spengler from the administration.

Senft said: "There are two kitchens for too many people.

In the residential complex on Ulrich-Haid-Strasse in Seefeld, for example, the situation is different because people have been divided into individual residential units.” Dennis Weber (Greens/BI) welcomed the open debate.

"Thank you for the initiative.

Because the situation is socially explosive and it's honest to deal with."

The question is: what happens to the surface now?

Instead of the refugee shelter, a homeless shelter is now to be built there.

Kögel reported that the municipality had already looked at modular systems in Landsberg and the new system in Herrsching (read the report on page 6).

In principle, the municipality is obliged to accommodate people who are registered in the municipality and become homeless.

There are currently two people but they are being accommodated, he said yesterday.

At times, the district of Fürstenfeldbruck helped out with accommodation at the air base, which would have been very expensive.

That would no longer be an issue.

Kögel can now imagine a system for up to ten people on the site.

This is probably very expensive due to the building regulations.

Ultimately, the Seefeld municipal councils unanimously decided to cancel the contract with the Starnberg district office on October 31st.

The administration should develop proposals on how to proceed with the area.
