District voters lost more than 60,000 voters, the first drop in 10 years

The 2022 official voter register was released on Sunday (25th), and the number of voters in geographical constituencies fell back to about 4.41 million, a decrease of more than 60,000 from last year.

Among the ten geographical constituencies, except for New Territories North, the number of voters rose slightly compared with last year by about 500, while the number of voters in other 9 districts fell compared with last year. Among them, Hong Kong Island East was the most obvious. The number of voters fell from about 425,000 last year to about 415,000, a decrease of about 415,000. More than 10,000 voters; Kowloon Central and the Northwest New Territories also lost more than 8,000 voters. The number of voters this year is about 450,000 and 460,000 respectively.

Voters in other constituencies fell by 4,000 to a few 7,000 from last year.

In the past ten years, the number of registered voters in Hong Kong has increased year-on-year, from less than 3.47 million in 2012 to over 4.47 million last year.

Among them, the increase in 2015 and 2019 was particularly significant. In 2015, the number of voters in the district increased by 186,000 compared with the previous year; from 2018 to 2020, the number of voters increased by more than 650,000 in the two years.

As for the functional constituencies final register, it contains 210,000 voters, including 206,355 individual voters and 8,309 corporate voters.

The Election Committee Subsector Final Register of Voters contained 7,969 voters, comprising 2,541 individual voters and 5,428 corporate voters.

Electoral Office staff leaked the data of 15,000 voters by mistake. The authorities took disciplinary action to follow up on the publication of the provisional register of voters.
