Munich – The Greens in Bavaria are now officially calling for a moratorium on the second S-Bahn trunk line in Munich.
"The awarding of new orders for the tunnel must be stopped immediately," said party leader Thomas von Sarnowski to "Münchner Merkur/tz".
Sarnowski called the tunnel a "CSU prestige project".
The Söder government must now put all the facts and figures on the table.
"After that, stopping construction must also be seriously considered." Not a meter of tunnel has yet been built.
The background to the Green initiative is the large number of unanswered questions.
It is now coming to light "in slices what the Söder government has been hiding from the public for two years," explained Sarnowski.
The tunnel had become a "disaster".
It's getting more and more expensive - estimated to be well over seven billion euros - and it's getting finished later and later.
The most recent information is up to the year 2038.
The Green leader called for a rethink.
The S-Bahn south ring in Munich must be upgraded as a "pragmatic alternative", supplemented by an expansion of the S-Bahn outer branches and the north ring.
The plans should be taken up “quickly”.
