When 2000 hand-picked guests come together in a historic abbey like Westminster Abbey and not a single sound is heard during a minute's silence, it reverberates powerfully in the heads of the family, who have to mourn the immediate loss of the dead, but also of an exceptional regent.

At many moments the new king was seen moved to tears, particularly as he bowed before his late mother's coffin

The Queen's coffin is not only adorned with the Imperial State Crown and flower arrangements.

There was also a small letter on top of the wonderful flower arrangement.

This came from the pen of King Charles and is addressed to the late regent.

"In loving and devoted memory.

Charles R,” reads the note in the arrangement.

It was not clear from the note whether this was also addressed to the now missing mother on behalf of the remaining children.

The Queen's personal music requests, the readings, hymns and finally the silence made the state funeral an unforgettable moment of global mourning that will probably never be repeated in its scope.
