The Housing Department submitted a document to the District Council a few days ago, proposing to build three public housing blocks at the current site of the former Kwai Chung Public School to provide about 1,700 units, with an estimated capacity of 4,760 people. It is expected to be completed in 2030.
The site is located near Guorui Road, adjacent to Mida Centre and Guorui Road Park, with a site area of approximately 1.32 hectares.
The department plans to develop 3 public housing blocks with a maximum plot ratio of 6.7 times, and provide greening and recreational facilities, children's playground, etc.
In addition, the site also houses retail facilities, social welfare and educational facilities, including residential care homes for the elderly, child care centres, kindergartens, etc.
The former Kwai Chung Public School will be demolished
The Housing Department pointed out that the former Kwai Chung Public School was a vacant school building, which was confirmed by the Education Bureau as no need for school purposes. The Planning Department had previously reviewed the land use of the site in accordance with the central allocation mechanism and suggested that it be used for residential purposes.
To tie in with the above development plan, the Civil Engineering and Development Department will demolish the former Kwai Chung Public School and carry out site formation and infrastructure works, which are expected to be completed in phases from 2025 to 2027.
Subject to the completion of site formation works, public housing development is expected to commence in 2025 and be completed in 2030.
