The Mexican filmmaker, screenwriter and actor Jorge Fons, died at the age of 83, according to the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences in a statement on his Twitter page.
“Fons left us.
AMACC embraces his family and the community for this loss.
Director of emblematic films such as Red Dawn and The Alley of Miracles, Fons led the renewal of the AMACC.
Emeritus member of the same and Ariel de Oro 2011. We are going to miss you, Jorge, ”says the statement.

The Secretary of Culture of Mexico, through her Twitter account, expressed her regret after the death of Fons.
"The Ministry of Culture regrets the death of the filmmaker, screenwriter and actor Jorge Fons."
The cause of the artist's death is unknown at this time.
Fons was the director of memorable films such as “Los Albañiles”, which received the Silver Bear in Berlin;
“Rojo Amanecer”, winner of the Ariel for Best Direction, and “El Callejón de los Milagros”.
