How else can electricity be saved?

The increasing electricity prices do not stop at the municipality of Finsing.

In the coming year alone, she expects additional costs of around half a million euros for the public buildings.

Finsing

– And in the years that follow, she will have to dig deeper into her pockets.

Now it's time to look for ways to save.

Monuments may no longer be illuminated, and a maximum of 19 degrees is permitted in public buildings: These and other energy-saving regulations have been in force in Germany since September 1st.

The fountain system in the municipality of Finsing was then switched off and the town hall had not been illuminated in the evening for several years, Mayor Max Kressirer (WGE) explained at the municipal council meeting on Monday evening.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.)

But last week the community got bad news.

She took part in a bundled tender for municipal electricity procurement by Kubus GmbH, which fixed the electricity price for the next three years.

According to managing director Helmut Fryba, 524 municipalities in Bavaria took part, "all of which now have the same electricity prices".

And they have it all.

A distinction is made between luminous flux, street lighting and heating current.

The net working price for luminous flux has so far been a good 5 cents.

In 2023 it will rise to a good 65 cents, plus concession fees and taxes, for example.

“That makes a finished electricity price of 88 cents instead of the current 24,” calculated Fryba.

Electricity costs increase from 167,000 to 619,000 euros

In the case of street lighting, the price will rise from a good 4 to 58 cents next year.

"And no offer at all was received for the heating current," explained Fryba.

According to Kressirer, it is possible that the community falls into the backup supply, "and that is actually the most expensive form of electricity".

Based on the experience of the past few years, Fryba has nevertheless made a calculation: For street lighting, 54 cents would be due next year instead of just under 4 cents.

Overall, the manager summed up: “This year we have gross electricity costs in all our facilities, including the school, of 167,000 euros.

Next year, assuming unchanged consumption of currently 768,000 kilowatt hours per year, these will amount to 619,000 euros.” The additional price is therefore almost half a million euros.

In the next two years, costs are expected to fall slightly - after the supply bottlenecks this winter, it is expected that the situation will ease again.

428,000 euros are therefore expected in 2024 and 328,000 euros in 2025.

Kressirer named the town houses, tennis club, stock rifle club and water rescue hut as affected buildings, but also the kindergartens.

They would primarily be heated by the wearer, "but if he can no longer afford it, he will come to us".

After all, it is positive that there is a fixed gas price until the end of 2024, even if relatively few municipal buildings are heated with gas in comparison.

PV systems and lamp replacement?

“Then we should build photovoltaic systems on the houses that are heated with electricity as soon as possible.

In terms of prices, it will pay off over the next three years,” suggested Ludwig Lex (FWF).

One has been "on the prowl for a long time", said Kressirer on the subject of PV and is now trying to install more photovoltaics in the kindergartens, contrary to the plans.

But there are building yards and town houses that have a “huge energy requirement”.

You have to think differently here.

A first step is that all those responsible, for example from clubs and fire brigades, are written to and asked for suggestions on how to save energy.

"We have to sensitize users and encourage them to think," says Kressirer.

That should also include the school, interjected Gertrud Eichinger (SPD).

The councilors should also think about it.

Peter Junker (AfD) wanted to know how street lighting would look like when it came to replacing light bulbs.

According to Kressirer, this has already begun.

However, this is very expensive, which is why further retrofitting has so far been postponed (we reported).

The insurer is therefore currently checking how street lighting could be switched off after 10 p.m.
