One initiative wanted to get a referendum on the stationing of a rescue helicopter in Wannweil (Reutlingen district).

The council has now made a decision.

Wannweil - The municipal council of Wannweil (Reutlingen district) approved a referendum on Thursday evening to station a rescue helicopter in the municipality.

This was announced by Mayor Christian Majer (independent).

A citizens' initiative had previously cleared an important procedural hurdle.

The examination by the municipal administration showed that most of the approximately 400 signatures collected for this purpose were valid.

The necessary quorum of seven percent of those entitled to vote was thus reached.

In the evening, the initiators of the citizens' initiative were first heard in the municipal council, then the vote in the municipal council followed.

On November 6th, citizens are to vote on the landing site.

At the end of July, the Wannweil municipal council had rejected a new location for a rescue helicopter that would provide people in the region with medical assistance in emergencies more quickly than before.

The panel rejected a landing area on the outskirts with a narrow majority.

The reasons given included noise pollution for local residents and land use.

The state interior ministry wants to relocate the "Christoph 41" rescue helicopter from Leonberg (Böblingen district) west of Stuttgart to the Tübingen-Reutlingen axis south of the state capital.

This was recommended by the Institute for Emergency Medicine and Medical Management at the Munich University Hospital in order to ensure good care across the board.
