The city council members unanimously decided in December that the fiber optic network in the city, especially in the commercial areas, should be expanded.

Fürstenfeldbruck - Among other things, the city administration should apply for admission to the Bavarian funding program for the development of giga-capable broadband networks.

In the meantime, Telekom has contacted the city of Fürstenfeldbruck - which means that the decisions made in December have largely become obsolete - and the city has no costs.

As Thilo Kurtz from Deutsche Telekom Technik reported at the most recent meeting of the main and finance committees, the provider is planning to expand almost the entire city area with a fiber optic network on its own.

FFB newsletter.)

Telekom had divided the urban area into three areas, "South", "Central" and "North" (with the districts of Puch, Aich and Hasenheide).

In "Fürstenfeldbruck Süd" the expansion should begin in 2026, in the city center in 2027 and in the north of 2028. "The order actually has something to do with the costs," explained Kurtz.

In areas where Telekom has not yet laid a network, the company would incur more costs for broadband expansion.

Kurtz also brought up this argument when asked by Markus Droth (FW), who had previously complained: "I don't think it's that positive that you have to wait in Hasenheide until 2028." This is where there are companies that need a broadband connection.

Kurtz explained that copper cables from Vodafone Kabel Deutschland have so far been located in the commercial area.

Preferring the north of Brucker is therefore not an option.

It could be faster if the street in a settlement is torn up anyway.

“We may then be able to lay the broadband connection at the same time so that the infrastructure does not have to be loaded again,” said Kurtz.

That was surprising, said Andreas Lohde (CSU).

In the spring, a fiber optic connection was laid to the Green Center.

However, households in Puch were not immediately connected to this campaign.

"Where did the communication not work?" Lohde asked.

Thilo Kurtz replied that it doesn't always work that you can take customers with you immediately.

In that case you would have needed a different one – a so-called distribution cable.

A main cable was laid to the Green Center.
