Recently the monument was threatened with auction.
The future is now secured by new sponsors - ambiguities remain with the location.
Frankfurt – The Frankfurt Euro, the famous statue in front of the former European Central Bank on Willy-Brandt-Platz, costs around 200,000 euros a year to maintain.
Due to the immense costs for maintenance, technology and TÜV, the landmark in downtown Frankfurt was about to be auctioned.
The costs of maintenance have so far been borne by several sponsors, several of whom withdrew in the wake of the corona pandemic.
But the impending auction was averted in time.
In a press release, the owner of the statue - the Frankfurt Cultural Committee - announced that a new financially strong sponsor had been found.
It is said to be a Frankfurt fintech, i.e. a company from the banking sector.
Which company it is exactly is to be announced next week at a press conference, reports fnp.de.
The Frankfurt Euro – still on Willy-Brandt-Platz?
However, it remains unclear whether the 14 meter high and 50 ton Euro sign will remain in its old place.
The Chairman of the Frankfurt Culture Committee, Manfred Pohl, told
Hessenschau
that several companies were also interested in having the building on their doorstep.
Nevertheless, the new sponsor from Frankfurt makes it clear: the banking city will retain one of its landmarks.
