Lapid claimed in his speech at the UN General Assembly that an agreement with the Palestinians is the right thing for Israel's security • Netanyahu attacked: "We will not return Israel to the Oslo disaster" • Shaked: "Lapid speaks only for himself when he supports a Palestinian state" • The left celebrated - Rabbi Meretz: "Finally the vision of peace is on the agenda"

Prime Minister Yair Lapid gave a speech today (Thursday) at the UN General Assembly in which he referred to the option of establishing a Palestinian state - a storm broke out in the political arena in Israel and the politicians began to address the speech one by one.

"Israel's economic and military strength allows us to defend ourselves, but it allows us another thing: to strive for peace with the entire Arab world and with our closest neighbors - the Palestinians," said Prime Minister Lapid this evening on the stage of the United Nations, "an agreement with the Palestinians, based on two states for two peoples - is the right thing for Israel's security, for the Israeli economy and for the future of our children."

On the right, they attacked: "High words and pleasant to the ear that wrap around a shameful surrender to terror"

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu released a video to his millions of followers on social media in which he attacked Lapid.

"Tonight we heard a speech full of weakness, defeat and bowing of the head. After the right-wing government led by me removed the Palestinian state from the world agenda, after we brought four historic peace agreements with Arab countries that bypassed the Palestinian veto, Lapid returns the Palestinians to the forefront of the world stage and puts Israel straight into the pit The Palestinian. Lapid has already said in the past that he is ready to 'evacuate 90 thousand Israelis to establish a Palestinian state.' Now he intends to give them a state of terror in the heart of the country, a state that will threaten us all.

"So I am informing you Lapid: I and my friends will not allow this. It is not possible to establish Hamastan on the border of Kfar Saba, Petah Tikva and Netanya. We will not return Israel to the Oslo disaster. Lapid is endangering our future and our existence both on the Palestinian issue and on the Iran issue. While Iran is racing towards a nuclear agreement that endangers the very existence of the State of Israel, Lapid does nothing. For more than a year he fell asleep on guard. Unlike us, Lapid did not fight against Iran in the American Congress, in the American media, in the American Senate. He did nothing.

"We will return to Israel a strong government that will prevent a Palestinian state, curb Iran, restore national honor and Israel to the world status it had and that you so deserve. I wish you all a happy and safe new year."

Religious Zionist Chairman Bezalel Smotrich added: "The meaning of Lapid's speech at the United Nations is a return to the cursed days of Oslo. Loud and pleasant words that wrap around a shameful surrender to terrorism and a quest to divide the country, give away territories and expel thousands of Jews from their homes.

"Lapid and Gantz brought the Palestinian Authority back to the center of the discourse and the international stage, they breathed hope into the sails of Palestinian nationalism, and the citizens of Israel are already feeling the results in waves of terrorism and a dangerous escalation in Judea and Samaria," added Smotrich.

Minister Ayelet Shaked added in a video in English to social networks: "Yair Lapid speaks only for himself when he supports a Palestinian state. This is just an election stunt. We will never allow the creation of a Palestinian terrorist state in the heart of the Land of Israel. Such a state will be a breeding ground for extremism, terrorism and regional stability".

Yair Lapid speaks only for himself when he supports a Palestinian state.

This is just an election stunt.

We will never allow the creation of a Palestinian terror state in the heart of the Land of Israel.

Such a state would be a hotbed of extremism, terror and regional instability.

The left celebrated: "Finally the vision of peace is on the agenda"

On the other hand, in the parties in Lapid's natural bloc, the center-left celebrated his support for the political vision of the two countries.

Minister Bar-Lev tweeted: "Exciting and impressive speech by Prime Minister Yair Lapid from the UN stage.

Great respect for the State of Israel, which was presented by the Prime Minister in a proper manner, while firmly standing up for its security and political interests."

Minister Nachman Shai also joined in and wrote: "The Prime Minister had an excellent speech at the UN."

He rightly adopted the two-state vision, there is no future for the State of Israel as a democratic Jewish state without separation from the Palestinians and the establishment of two states for two peoples based on Israel's security, without compromises."

Meretz chairman Zehava Galon tweeted: "A historic speech by Prime Minister Lapid - finally the vision of peace is on the agenda.

Meretz will stand to Lapid's left to turn it from a vision to a reality. To put an end to the cycle of bloodshed, to end control over millions of Palestinians, and to the years of Pain and bereavement on both sides. May this be a year of peace."

Minister Isavi Frij added: "Today, Prime Minister Lapid said the obvious from the UN stage, peace is the most right thing for Israelis and Palestinians and the way to reach it is through the two-state solution. This is the truth, ignoring it, you will not make it go away."

MK Mossi Raz of Meretz added: "Proud of our prime minister for declaring from the UN stage that Israel's hand is extended for peace.

He needs a strong Meretz by his side to make sure that he also backs up his words with deeds, and works every day to promote negotiations for a political settlement.

He arrived Time to try the way of peace."
