Between abstraction, realism, and expressionism, artistic models were formed to shed light on creative visions and ideas emanating from youthful aspirations and announce their launch to the Syrian art scene with much love and passion through the graduation projects of students of the Sculpture Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University.

Among the projects discussed by the jury in the Sculpture Department is the (random burial) project, which expresses a painful human condition that has gone through history in many sites and recorded numbers of missing persons under the rubble of natural and unnatural disasters in tombs from random mass burials. The student, Nouran Naim Saleh, embodied four artworks in her project.

Nouran explained the details of her project, as it includes 19 sculpted figures in a realistic and expressive manner that shows the features of natural faces at the moment of annihilation in a plexiglass cover (acrylic glass) within an optical equivalent that translates a philosophical idea related to the topic using various materials of clay and gypsum with hemp fibers placed on metal pillars in addition to To the ready-made clay and its color of death yellow and pale white, indicating that her project will be a starting point in her long artistic career and the main motive for further study, research and deepening of the idea of ​​her project.

(People’s Artist) by the great late Rafiq Subai’i was the title of the student’s project, Sarah Jerodi, in her desire to form a monument to a famous Syrian actor, singer and monologist who left our world in 2017 after enriching Syrian drama with many works of art that varied between cinema, theater, radio and television.

Jerodi explained that it is the first time that she sculpted a realistic work of this large size, which reached approximately one and a half meters, using only clay, and another statue of the artist Subai'i made of clay, indicating the great challenge that she put herself before him due to its difficulty.

The project (Manifestations) of the student Johnny Anton Kassis emerged with a mixture of abstraction and expressive realism to create a mystical state by detaching the body from the intellectual formation and liberation in the catacombs of spiritual travel using wood, clay and stone.

In a statement to SANA, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Fouad Dahdouh, said that Syria is the birth of art, and in every batch it graduates with distinguished talents that have carved a place for themselves on the plastic scene, which has made a clear imprint in Arab and international art.

In turn, Head of the Sculpture Department at the College, Dr. Batoul Khaundeh, indicated that it is the fourth batch that is working on training and graduating it in the college after returning from an external delegation in France, indicating the distinction of this batch in interaction, love of initiative and freedom in choosing ideas and materials with deliberate selectivity and passion to defend their ideas and embody them with distinguishing marks.

She explained that the graduates of the class of 2021-2022 were distinguished by their projects using colored sculpture and supporting it with a visual and audio culture, opening up horizons for the student by integrating diverse artistic cultures with sculpture and networking among them to embody a balanced idea of ​​their sculptures.
