The city of Bruchköbel (Main-Kinzig-Kreis) pumps the water from the outdoor pool into the indoor pool for the winter.

Bruchköbel – There has undoubtedly never been such an operation in the history of the Bruchköbel volunteer fire brigade.

During the course of yesterday morning, the emergency services pumped 760 cubic meters of water from the outdoor pool into the neighboring indoor pool, which is scheduled to reopen on Sunday, October 2nd, reports op-online.de.

The swimming season in the outdoor pool ended at the beginning of September.

In the past, the water in the outdoor pool was simply drained after the end of the bathing season.

"We want to save both water and energy with this," reported Mayor Sylvia Braun on Wednesday (September 21), who recently presented another innovation in downtown Bruchkoebel.

The campaign was led by the head of economic operations, Daniel Weber, and the city fire inspector Matthias Schmidt.

The seven members of the city fire brigade need about five hours to fill the indoor pool with outdoor pool water, so that an almost seamless transition from the outdoor to the indoor season is now possible.

The high-performance pumps conveyed about 4000 liters per minute through the hoses.

Because the pool in the indoor pool is higher than the outdoor pool, the pumps had to do the hard work.

The portable pumps are actually only used in the event of a disaster and are therefore rarely used.

“That’s why they have to be fully utilized once a year.

So that's a good thing now," said city fire inspector Schmidt.

Since the capacity of the outdoor pool is larger, the remaining amount of water is to be used to irrigate the sunbathing lawn and a red beech.

The remaining water is kept in the two pools in the outdoor pool for the purpose of winter resistance.

Main-Kinzig-Kreis: The city of Bruchköbel pumps outdoor pool water into the indoor pool to save energy

“We thought about what contribution we could make to saving energy.

Then we came up with this idea,” reports Daniel Weber.

It was the first time in the history of the city that water from the outdoor pool was recycled for the indoor pool, according to the head of the economic operations.

The measure was favored by the fact that the pool in the indoor pool was empty due to the conversion and renovation measures.

The work lasted until the beginning of the summer.

That's why the outdoor pool season had started earlier.

Whether the water will then be pumped back into the outdoor pool next year was left open by Mayor Braun.

The water is now treated again by a chlorine gas system.

Swimmers have to be prepared for significantly lower temperatures in winter.

While the water temperature has always been around 28 degrees, athletes and recreational swimmers will in future only have to step into water that is only 24 degrees.

World record attempt in Bruchköbel: triathletes train underwater cycling - cooler temperatures ideal

However, the cooler conditions will suit a group of triathletes set to attempt a world record underwater cycling event there on October 2nd.

In the record attempt, ten athletes from the Bruchköbel tria team take turns riding bicycles under water.

In 24 hours as many turns as possible must be pedaled.

The record for a team of 10 was only increased to 123.15 kilometers by the Austrian company sports association in Vienna at the beginning of April.

The previous record holder was the HLTC Nidderau with 109.39 kilometers, which is also participating and supporting the current record attempt.

That's why the motto is: "We're bringing the record back to Germany." In addition, they want to thank the city of Bruchköbel for the renovation of the indoor pool, according to a press release from the athletes.
