A figure that has increased by 25% in ten years, according to the latest perinatal health monitoring report, published on September 20 by Santé Publique France.
DROMs are particularly affected.
In the overseas territories in 2019, out of 1,000 (live*) births, more than four newborns died before their first month of life.
That is double the metropolis.
In addition, there are nearly 7,000 stillborn babies throughout the territory, who died in utero or during childbirth (death per partum).
