Student Union held parting ceremony

The facts of the case allege that on February 7, 2022, the CityU asked the student union to return the management rights of some places. The student union later posted on Facebook that it would hold a "farewell ceremony".

At 3:00 pm on the day of the incident, about 100 people gathered outside the Student Union Office on the 6th floor of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) complex on campus. Some people distributed T-shirts, and Liu Junjie, the president of the Board of Directors, spoke.

Some members of the student union then led them to the 4th and 3rd floors of the Yang Jianwen Academic Building.

After most of the people dispersed, the 14 defendants gathered at the Democracy Wall on the third floor and lined up to take pictures.

The defendants are all members of the student union

The defense pleaded that the defendants were all members of the student union and had a certain enthusiasm for the affairs of CityU.

This time, because CityU wanted to take back the meeting site of the student union, the defendant consciously had the responsibility to inform the students of their concerns.

The circumstances of this case are relatively minor, involving a small number of people, and only students and staff can enter the crime scene.

Everyone was wearing masks and maintaining a proper distance, and there was no risk of serious disease transmission.

The defendants have reflected and understood the importance of epidemic prevention.

When sentencing, the magistrate said that warnings and reminders were issued at the time of the incident, but the defendant ignored them and did not stop.

However, the magistrate accepted that the time involved in the case was short and that the defendants were all first-time offenders, so they were fined $7,000 each.
