Fifteen players from the Spanish women's national team have resigned, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said on Thursday.
The RFEF said in a statement that it received 15 emails from 15 players asking not to be selected, calling it "an unprecedented situation in the history of football, both male and female, in the Spanish and world arena."
The RFEF statement refers to the fact that the players have a problem with the coach and the technical staff of the national team.
The federation says the 15 players sent 15 separate emails, but they all included the same wording.
The federation's statement says in part, "the current generated situation affects them 'in an important way' in their 'emotional state' and in their 'health' and that, 'as long as it is not reversed'".
The RFEF says that "it will not allow the players to question the continuity of the national coach and his coaching staff, since making those decisions does not fall within their powers."
"The Federation will not accept any type of pressure from any player when adopting sports measures. These types of maneuvers are far from exemplary and outside the values of football and sport and are harmful" , continues the statement.
The Spanish Federation added that the players who sent the emails will not be able to return to the national team unless they accept "their mistake" and apologize.

Among the players who sent the email with the resignation is not Alexia Putellas, current winner of the Ballon d'Or and star of FC Barcelona.
There is also no Real Madrid player.
