The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia today confirmed that a boat carrying Chinese nationals sank yesterday off Preah Sihanouk province, southwest Cambodia.
Xinhua quoted the embassy as saying that it received a report from the Cambodian police yesterday that the police had found a sinking boat with 41 Chinese nationals on board. 18 people were rescued and the remaining 23 are still missing.
The embassy indicated that two Cambodian crew members involved in the accident have been arrested and that search and rescue operations are still underway.
According to the rescued people's account, the boat left Guangzhou in China's Guangdong Province on September 11, and the boat was in danger shortly after it reached the waters of Preah Sihanouk Province.
