The number of corona infections has already increased.

Update from September 22, 2:45 p.m .:

When asked by

, the health department (GSR) of the city of Munich also commented.

A spokeswoman said: "So far, the GSR has not noticed any extraordinary increase." (The corona incidence in the city of Munich was 255.6 on Thursday, September 22nd, a day earlier it was 240.4, see first report )

It also says, "the GSR expects a gradually increasing increase in the number of cases, which will continue after the end of the Wiesn."

Original message from September 21

: Munich – The 187th Oktoberfest in Munich has already lasted four days.

Crowds of visitors from all over the world flock to the Bavarian capital, jostling through the colorful stalls and swaying arm in arm on the beer bench to the most beautiful Wiesn classics.

Hardly anyone here seems to be thinking about Corona anymore.

Oktoberfest 2022: Corona incidence has already increased significantly on the fourth day

Virologists had warned in advance that the city's corona numbers would also rise sharply with the Wiesn.

The best proof of this were the past folk festivals in other Bavarian towns such as Straubing, Rosenheim and Oberstimm.

Wherever a folk festival had taken place, the number of infections rose significantly in the days that followed.

A look at the numbers shows that the city of Munich also recorded an increased incidence just four days after the start of the Oktoberfest.

On the day of the tapping, September 17th, the corona incidence was still 204.9.

For September 21, the RKI already reported an increase to 240.4, which corresponds to 3,577 newly reported cases.

A week ago the incidence was 183.6.

229 hospital beds occupied by corona patients: further increase expected

While 174 beds with confirmed corona cases were still occupied on September 16, there were already 229 on September 20.

In view of the findings from the last major folk festivals, it is to be expected that the numbers will continue to rise significantly by the end of the week.

For the next few days, meteorologists are also expecting a slight increase in temperature in Munich before it gets really cold.

It should get warm again up to 18 degrees.

The relatively warm weather should then probably also increase the number of visitors – and thus the number of new infections – at the Wiesn.
