New York-Sana
On the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, discussed with his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed the reality of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, where the views of the two sides were in agreement on the need to move forward in developing these relations in various fields.
Minister Miqdad presented the developments of the situation in Syria and the challenges it faces, especially with regard to the effects of terrorism and unilateral coercive measures, which negatively affected the economic and living situation of the Syrian people and exacerbated their suffering.
In this regard, Miqdad referred to the importance of implementing aspects related to early recovery projects stipulated in Security Council Resolution 2642, especially those related to electricity, water, health and education.
In turn, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed expressed his country's keenness for Syria's full recovery as soon as possible and for things to return to normal in a way that contributes to serving the interests of the Syrian people and Syria's return to exercising its role at the Arab and international levels.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation bilaterally and at the United Nations, especially in light of the UAE's occupation of a non-permanent seat on the Security Council.
The meeting was attended by Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, Director of the Organizations Department, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Wissam Ajeeb from the permanent delegation, and Ihab Hamed from the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
