China and Australia expressed their willingness to work together, properly handle differences, and develop mutually beneficial relations on the basis of mutual respect.
"China is willing to work with Australia to properly handle differences so as to promote the sound and stable development of bilateral relations," Xinhua quoted Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi as saying during his meeting with his Australian counterpart Benny Wong on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Chinese official added that after half a century of trials and difficulties, this relationship should become more mature, stable and flexible and take its course in the interests of both sides, noting that this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, and expressed China's appreciation for reaffirming Australia adheres to the "one China" policy, stressing that the two sides should conduct more exchanges to create a good atmosphere for the sound development of relations between the two countries.
Wang stressed that China firmly supports trade liberalization and facilitation, and is committed to building an open economic system at a higher level and establishing an open world economy.
For her part, the Australian Foreign Minister said that her country is willing to develop a stable, fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship with China on the basis of mutual respect.
She said her country is ready to take the 50th anniversary as an opportunity and adopt a calm and forward-looking stance to communicate frankly with the Chinese side and conduct constructive exchanges in order to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between Australia and China, stressing that her country respects the international legal system based on the United Nations Charter and adheres to the (one China) policy. Supports the idea of (Taiwan independence).
