The way to the new development of the old clinic area in Feldafing is still difficult.

The municipal council is not entirely happy with the design, as is the government of Upper Bavaria, which may withdraw funding for the urban planning competition for the area.

Feldafing – The planned development of the old clinic site is only progressing in small steps.

In the council meeting on Tuesday, it was a step again: the majority of the municipal council spoke out against lantern floors on three of the eight planned residential buildings.

According to Mayor Bernhard Sontheim, he did so in a non-public meeting because there is now another problem with the project.

Since the Benedictus Hospital moved to the former Bundeswehr site in autumn 2019, the owners, including the construction project developer C7 from Munich, have been trying to reach an agreement with the community of Feldafing on a development.

An urban planning competition was held for this purpose, funded by the government of Upper Bavaria.

There was a winning design, but the winner didn't want to realize his design - the community of Feldafing and the owner were left blank (we reported).

In order not to lose any more time, the municipality and the owners agreed to modify the draft of an approved preliminary decision for the 15,000 square meter area so that it suits everyone to some extent.

The development plan valid for the area was canceled for this purpose, and planning is now based on the size of the surrounding buildings.

All sides are now working on this.

The lantern floors, which according to the design were intended for three of the eight buildings, did not receive the approval of the municipal council in the most recent session.

"That was too massive for many local councils," said Sontheim on request.

The Feldafinger municipal council has to deal with another problem at the same time.

The man responsible for urban development in the government of Upper Bavaria considers the current design with eight buildings to be unsuccessful in terms of urban development, as Mayor Sontheim says.

The government of Upper Bavaria is therefore considering withdrawing funding for the competition.

"It's about 100,000 euros," says Sontheim.

According to the mayor, the criticism is that the buildings are too large and arranged in a canyon-like manner from an urban planning point of view.

Furthermore, the government wants a "square-like opening", as it is called in architects' German, in the direction of Dr.

Appelhans way.

At the beginning of October there is a meeting with the government of Upper Bavaria.

At least 100 apartments are to be built on the site, including affordable housing for people with middle incomes.
