The animal show of the cattle breeding cooperative attracted around 800 visitors to the Miesbacher Oberlandhalle.
District – These days, many expert glances rested on the handsome Fleckvieh cows, which the Wolfratshausen cattle breeding cooperative (VZG) presented in the Miesbacher Oberlandhalle.
The animals accepted this concentrated attention relatively calmly.
The assessment of the approximately 800 visitors over the entire event, for which the breeders had been preparing for some time, was unanimously positive, describes breeding consultant Sepp Günthner.
Günthner was responsible for organizing the event together with breeding manager Rudolf Maierhofer and VZG chairman Josef Thalhammer (we reported).
With a view to the number of members of the Wolfratshauser VZG, which with around 100 companies is relatively small compared to the other seven cattle breeding cooperatives combined in the Miesbacher Breeding Association, many almost exemplary cows can be served.
And the breeders would have gone to a lot of trouble to dress up their "catwalk candidates" - a total of 63 from 32 farms - accordingly.
It was not an easy task for the jury, consisting of Franz Auer and Markus Klocker from Tyrol, to determine their ratings in view of the excellent line-up in the various age and calving categories.
The decision for or against one of the candidates was often very close.
The catalog of criteria for a healthy, productive and long-living Simmental cow is generally quite comprehensive: In addition to length and size, the composition of the frame, feet and legs, pelvis, udder and pasterns play a decisive role.
In this respect, raising cows that are ideally formed and, moreover, high-yielding in terms of milk yield and milk components, this goal can only be achieved with continuous work across generations and breeding knowledge on the farms, some professional colleagues in the spectator stands paid tribute to the elite presented.
At this animal show, the milk yield of the cows was not included in the grading, as Günthner emphasized.
In addition to the individual animal evaluations, the so-called breeders' collections - when three animals from a farm are subjected to an overall evaluation - attracted a lot of attention as usual.
The oldest cow in the presentation had already given birth to eleven calves and came from Sebastian Disl's stable in Dietramszell.
The day before, in connection with the animal show, a meeting of the state association of Bavarian young breeders took place, to which Austrian colleagues were also invited.
The generally well-trained young farmers from all administrative districts took a close look at five cows from the Höss farm in Bad Wiessee as part of an animal assessment competition.
This was followed by the annual meeting of the association with new elections.
Toni Huber from Herrnhausen (Eurasburg) resigned from his position as Vice-Chairman.
The Miesbach breeding association is now represented on the state board by Johannes Krug, who was elected treasurer.
The local young breeders had also organized the "Bambini Cup", which was held in the ring.
In a demonstration competition and a short obstacle course with their calves, 43 children showed what they learned from their parents and grandparents.
All the children were equally honored when the prizes were awarded by milk queen Veronika Gschoßmann.
"Breeding success is a generational achievement," summed up breeding consultant Sepp Günthner.
