Darmstadt – Dozens of SV Darmstadt 98 football fans are said to have triggered a major police operation in Darmstadt on Saturday morning (September 24th).
Several houses are said to have been sprayed and pyrotechnics burned down, the police headquarters in southern Hesse said in the afternoon.
Around 5:30 a.m., up to 50 people ran towards the city center and rioted, witnesses from Landwehrstraße reported to the police.
When the officials arrived, numerous houses on the street were already smeared with black and silver paint, reports op-online.de.

According to the police, the rampaging group was then found in an underground car park below Karolinenplatz.
When the football fans spotted the officers, some people initially fled.
"The patrols occasionally had to use pepper spray and batons during police measures," it said.
Finally, personal details of the group members could be determined.
The police also issued place references.
The investigations are ongoing.
