The rafting town expresses "non-binding" interest in a connection to the upcoming geothermal power plant from Gelting.
The city council passed this unanimously.
Wolfratshausen/Gelting – If the deep geothermal project at Gut Breitenbach in Gelting is crowned with success, the city of Wolfratshausen would like to get on board.
That means: The rafting town wants to be connected to the district heating network.
The Wolfratshausen city council made this decision unanimously in its meeting on Tuesday evening in the Loisachhalle.
District heating close by: This is how Wolfratshausen wants to heat “in the distant future”.
First of all, however, the decision is to be understood as a "non-binding expression of interest", explained the head of the town hall, Klaus Heilinglechner (citizens' association).
Specifically, the administration has been tasked with "following up the project within the scope of their responsibilities".
With regard to the construction of a district heating network, which is likely to cost several million euros, the city council attached importance to the statement in its resolution: "The general expression of interest will not have any direct financial effects on the city of Wolfratshausen for the time being." Ground is tamped, stressed Mayor Heilinglechner with the words: "We are talking about sometime in the distant future."
Geothermal heat supply from Wolfratshausen possible
As reported, the city of Geretsried cleared the way for a third borehole for the geothermal project in the Gelting district in December 2020.
Vivian Horngacher, environmental and climate protection manager in the Wolfratshausen town hall, informed the city councilors about the status quo: "After discussions between the Wolfratshausen and Geretsried municipal utilities and the responsible project initiator, Eavor Erdwärme Geretsried GmbH, it was announced that, based on the current status of the project, subject to more success Boreholes and the associated amounts of heat available, it is possible to supply not only the city of Geretsried but also the city of Wolfratshausen with geothermal energy in the future.".
No drilling has been done yet: date and volume unknown
According to Horngacher, the so-called "loop technology" is used in the geothermal project.
Eavor GmbH has already presented the "innovative process" for generating geothermal heat to the municipal utility and "given an outlook on the chances of a long-term regenerative energy and heat supply in the district and beyond".
Horngacher expressly pointed out to the elected officials that no drilling had been carried out and that it was not foreseeable "when and to what extent one could speak of a secure district heating supply".
As soon as the project can be further specified, the city of Wolfratshausen will immediately “share this information with the public”.
Ambitious plans: desire for Wolfratshauser to lead the district heating project
The two municipal utilities, in cooperation with the Oberland energy transition, are to start promptly with the necessary basic determination (partial energy usage plan, heat register, network model, etc.).
"It is important that we express our interest," said the environmental officer of the Wolfratshausen city council, Dr.
Hans Schmidt (Greens), on Tuesday evening.
He suggested that – analogous to Geretsried – the Stadtwerke Wolfratshausen should be in charge of the district heating network project.
