More and more energy suppliers are increasing their prices.

The differences are immense.

Some customers get away with 0.13 percent.

For others, it is more than twice as expensive.

Munich/Berlin – In addition to gas prices, prices on the electricity exchange are also exploding.

“The high electricity exchange prices are also a result of the increased gas prices.

Gas-fired power plants are essential in the German electricity mix in order to balance out fluctuating renewable energies and thus play a key role in determining the electricity exchange price,” explains Steffen Suttner, Managing Director Energy at Check24.

He already announced that these high prices would also reach end customers with a delay.

Electricity price: These suppliers have increased their prices the most

However, there isn't really much delay.

As the data from the comparison portal Check24 shows, a number of suppliers have already increased their prices for existing customers.

In September and October alone, utilities turned the price screw in 153 cases.

Across Germany alone, around 2.2 million households are affected.

In the following table you can read which basic suppliers have increased their prices by at least 50 percent.

Electricity price: Even new customers have to reckon with higher costs

In the current year, 657 utilities nationwide have already announced or implemented price increases.

Many are also only minimal amounts that customers have to pay more.

Stadtwerke Gifhorn from Lower Saxony brings up the rear.

Here, customers only have to pay 0.13 percent more per year.

With the example consumption of 5000 kilowatt hours, this adds up to around three euros in additional costs.

But many suppliers are getting much stronger.

For example, the Stadtwerke in Gronau are increasing the tariff for existing customers by 51.8 percent, which corresponds to 843 euros more.

The municipal works Stockstadt want 55.2 percent more.

That makes 790 euros more on the annual statement at the end of the year.

The biggest price shock threatens the customers of Stadtwerke Cottbus.

From October 1st, consumers will be faced with a price increase of over 120 percent.

Converted to an annual consumption of 5000 kilowatt hours, this corresponds to the additional costs of 1928 euros.

Electricity is even more expensive for new customers.

Here the suppliers have increased the prices for the tariffs by over 150 percent.

According to the Federal Network Agency's 2021 monitoring report, around 7.2 million households changed their energy supplier in 2020.

The high prices for new customer contracts are likely to hit millions of consumers hard again this year.
